MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: If I open the door won't the cold inside be lost? Or how does it compare to a chest freezer? A: No, if your freezer is half full or more of frozen food, that alone wil preserve your cold inside the box. You will lose approximately 2 or 3 degrees at normal use. Compared to a chest freezer, once you open the lid, if your food is on top you're fine but if foods need to be set outside or time is spent digging, you will lose far more than an upright.
Q: Running 2 burners all the time. Does'nt that take a lot of fuel? A: Our 18 cu. ft. is designed where you only need 1 burner through the majority of the whole year. Only through hot summer days or times where lots of warm foods are added are 2 burners needed. Providing the frezer is set up in a basement or mild area.
Q: How much gas does an upright freezer use compared to a chest freezer? A: Two burners on the 18 cu ft. upright is still more efficient per cubic foot than a smaller 10 cu ft chest. Running on one burner and keeping 18 cu ft of food frozen will use approximately 5 gallons of gas per month or 20 cents per day.
Q: How does this compare to an 8 cu. ft. solar freezer? A: Your initial cost will be close if not more with solar panels, batteries, wiring upkeep, etc. If at any time a backup generator has to run to keep up, your running cost is again the same or more (with less cu. ft.)
Q: How much chilled food can be added at a time, without food spoilage? A: Up to 1/2 of the freezer's total food capacity. The 18 cu ft. holds up to 630 pounds of frozen foods.
Q: How cold should my freezer be to keep my sweets and ice cream hard? A: Arange of -3degrees to 5 degrees above is best.
